SPARCstation SLC

Personal Notes:
I bought this machine at one of the places I worked in the early 90ties. Actually not very usable by itself, as the box has no disk. The 'Computer' is attached to the back of the Monitor, so it has to boot over the network and NFS-mount the whole filesystem. Great for the time when disks were expensive. Because all programs have to run locally, the box is quite slow, and slower because of the net-mounts. By using a package named XKernel it can be converted into an X-Terminal. It boots a striped-down unix-kernel with integrated X-Server over the network, and then the clients are executed remotely. *Bang* the box is much faster. Very nice engineering!!!!
