SUN Microsystems. Stanford University Network. Co-founded by a german named
Hauser, which studied at Stanford. There he (with some fellow students) built
some UNIX workstations, running BSD, so they could procede in their computer
science courses. Those machines proved to be rather powerful, so they created a
Spin-Off and named it... SUN!
Nowadays, with Intel swallowing Alpha, SUN is about the only manufaturer of an
alternative, high-powered CPU.
